Lizards Custom Labels has a strong design team glad to help with any artwork requirements you may have.

We prefer artwork to be supplied as a Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF files should be saved – High Resolution with 3mm bleed and crop marks.

Fonts: Ideally all fonts should be converted to paths.

Embedding Fonts: Avoids the risk of font licensing breach. It also ensures the final print job turns out as expected. If changes are required the fonts should be supplied.

Images: Resolution should be at least 300dpi and in CMYK format. Please review our Artwork Guide.

Bleed is the image area just outside your finished page size. It is needed to ensure your job looks its best. Images, background colours and other fills which are intended to print to the trimmed edge of the design should be extended 2-3mm beyond the edge to give a “bleed”.

Without this you may end up with a variable white border. Please review our Artwork Guide.

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. Supplying a print ready PDF not only eliminates all of the extra files you would have traditionally sent to a printing company, it will also speed your file through our pre-press department as we won’t need to load everything into our system. By supplying a print ready PDF you create a simple workflow between you and us, enabling a hassle free transition from design through to print and delivery.

A Print ready PDF must meet certain criteria for your file to print without problems. All print ready PDFs need to contain the following:

  • The file is supplied as four-colour process CMYK and not RGB colour space.
  • The document’s page size is the finished trim size.
  • Fonts are embedded or converted to outlines so no fonts are needed.
  • All scans resolution are 300 dpi at 100% of the final image size.
  • Images are embedded in the file.
  • Files are supplied with 2 or 3mm bleed.
  • Any trim, score or fold marks are indicated and outside the live print area.
  • Artwork is at least 5mm from the edge of the page; this is regarded as a safe or quiet area.
  • Black text is 100% black and not a mix of CMYK.
  • White text is not set to overprint.

This stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black – the four colours used to achieve Colour Process Printing. This is also known as “Full Colour Printing”, and is a widely used printing technique.

By using combinations of these colours in various tints, it is possible to produce virtually every colour imaginable! Please review our Artwork Guide.

When your graphic has a resolution that is lower than 300 dpi it may look blurry when printed as a sticker. Lizards Custom Labels as a way to ensure your design looks as good as possible will recreate your uploaded image as a vector graphic (also called vectorization). Vector art is created using vector illustration software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.

These programs use mathematical equations and geometric primitives (points, lines, and shapes) to create art that is clean, camera ready, and can be scaled infinitely, without any loss of quality. This service is at an additional fee depending on the complexity of your design. When the service is completed you will receive a vector file of your artwork that can be used in future projects.

Although the terms die cut and kiss cut labels are sometimes used interchangeably, all wide format digitally printed labels are cut-contoured on the backing sheet for easy peeling. Kiss cutting means the label is shaped (or cut contoured) to the depth of the backing sheet so the label can easily be peeled off.

Once labels have been cut-contoured, the excess material between each sticker needs to be removed so you are supplied only with the finished labels on the backing sheet - this process is known as "weeding or weeding the labels."
